Olmsted Township Town Center Streetscape Improvement Plan

Olmsted Township has developed a Streetscape Improvement Plan to enhance the heart of our community at the intersection of Bagley Road and Stearns Road. This plan reflects months of public input, technical analysis, and collaboration between Township officials, consultants, local businesses, and residents.

Purpose of the Plan

The goal is to create a safe, walkable, and vibrant Town Center that blends Olmsted Township’s history with new opportunities for housing, retail, and community life. The plan focuses on:

  • Improving traffic flow and safety for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
  • Enhancing walkability with sidewalks, multi-use trails, and safe crossings.
  • Supporting local businesses and preparing for future development.
  • Adding landscaping, signage, and community spaces to create a sense of place.

Key Improvements

The plan identifies four priority projects:

  1. Roadway Enhancements – Adding turn lanes and improving traffic flow at Bagley & Stearns.
  2. Multi-Use Trail – A new safe trail connecting the Town Center to Olmsted Falls High School.
  3. Gateway Intersection – Decorative paving, monument signs, and shade trees to create a welcoming entry into the Township.
  4. Pedestrian Experience – Wider sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, benches, and wayfinding signs to make the area more inviting and accessible.

Future phases may also include a pedestrian plaza, reconfigured parking, and stormwater improvements.

Community Engagement

The plan was built on extensive community input:

  • 500+ survey responses from Township residents.
  • Multiple stakeholder meetings with local business owners, schools, and residents.
  • A public open house at Swings-N-Things with strong community participation.

Residents consistently emphasized the importance of safety, functionality, and maintaining Olmsted Township’s traditional character, while also welcoming amenities that support long-term growth.

Next Steps

The Township will use this plan to guide phased improvements, seek funding opportunities, and continue working with the community to make Olmsted Township’s Town Center a place of pride.
